Don't Let Them Bite YOU
Although I love having the occasional backyard BBQ and picnicing with friends, I really hate it when the mosquitos come out for their tasty evening meal....Mainly ME!
This year as in the past I am making my own mosquito repellent. I do not like the idea of putting all the chemicals on my body, and this repellent is quick and easy to make. It can be stored in a dark colored bottle away from sunlight. A simple rule of thumb is 5-10% essential oil to 10-20 parts carrier oil. I usually make it in small batches. Just take 10-25 drops of essential oil and mix it with 2 Tbl. carrier oil. Some of my friends use alcohol or witch hazel instead of carrier oil, but I have not tried that.
Some essential oils that mosquitos do not like are: cinnamon oil, lemon eucalyptus oil, citronella oil, and castor oil. You can use olive oil, sunflower oil or any other kind of cooking oil as the carrier. Mix it together and you are ready to use. This mixture can be applied or sprayed on. Reapply after swimming or heavy exertion. If you are pregnant, or nursing, please do not try unless your doctor approves. Essential oils are potent, so it's not necessary to add any extras. If for some reason you are extra sensative and get a rash, discontinue use..
I have used this formula for years and enjoy my family BBQ's without the mosquitos biting me. Bon Appetit!!.
